This Registry will serve a range of purposes centering around maintaing biological links and increasing the sharing of information.
It will enable FSDW donors, parents and DC children to remain in touch after conception without having to share personal information while the child is under 18. All contact can be done through the FSDW Donor Sibbling Registry secure messaging system.
While many countries do not recognise private sperm donation this will enable men to donate without the worry of being sued for child support- however still able to find out how the child is- and to be contacted if the child wishes.
This will also protect parents raising the child from legal action by the donor- and enable them to have peace of mind that their arrangement will be honoured. This leaves them (the biological mother and social parent - if a couple) feeling far more secure about maintain links with the donor and keeping options open for the child. Under their supervision children may even contact the donor themselves through the secure messaging area. At this point Emma envisages that - until 18 - it is the DC child's parents who decide when contact is made, not the donor.

Thanks for your email. I would have kept in touch and told you about any good news in the coming New Year...fingers crossed...
I have found the right donor (with careful consideration),  from your brilliant site :)
We have communicated on a numerous occasions by email and spoken a few times via mobile. He caters to all my expectations... He has agreed to start AI in January.  By that time I would have been on folic acid tablets long enough and checked anything out including his status of health etc.

*****, the Donor has been a perfect gentlemen and been straight forward of his expectations to what type of involvement he wishes - which is contact when the child ( he or she), reaches 18 years old, or earlier if the child wishes it...which is want I wish too...I am travelling to him, staying in an hotel and I am taking a friend with me. W*** lives not far from the station.

I was very surprised and impressed with your FSDW site, especially too how much information you offer. I was very impressed with the information about putting the 'child's needs' first - being honest with he or she about their parentage. This worried me a great deal but your site covered a lot of ground and has made me less anxious about how to approach this sensitive issue to my child in the near future. Yes, I agree honesty is the best approach.  

I cannot think of anything to improve your FSDW site...you have covered everything...if I do think of anything I will email you again.

I was introduced to your site via a friend who has been a surrogate mother in the past, so she is aware of what is involved practically, physical and emotionally etc. She is the friend who is companying me to London.

Hi emma i'm writing to let you know that i'm pregnant thanks to the help of your site.

I started trying last year with a donor in WA, we had three attempts but then a family situation meant that i ended up moveing back to Tasmania (where i'm originally from). After settling here i went back to your site and located a donor here. It took just the one attempt with the new donor and i'm now *just* pregnant, getting a positive pregnancy test on thursday.

I'm so happy, my dreams have been granted and its thanks to someone such as you putting in the effort and time to have created and now maintain the free-sperm-donations website.

You deserve the thanks as much as my donor does, as both of you played such a huge role in giving me my hearts desire. Without the website i'd not have found my donor, without my donor i'd not now be "with child"

FSDW (originally Sperm Donors Worldwide) - the only strictly AI only site in the world- was created in 2003. Although controversial, Emma felt that many women and couples who wanted desperately to be a parent- and would make wonderful parents!- were limited in their choices, because of marital status, sexuality, fertility issues & more. She didn't feel this was fair.
FSDW offers choices- and not just for women- it is also proving successful for men wanting to co-parent without romance!

With the abolishment of sperm donor anonymity within the UK at that time there was a decrease in available sperm.
Emma knew that many men still wanted to help- but without the knowledge that a child - or children- could come knocking on their door at aged 18. She felt that there had to be an alternative- and especially as women and infertile couples were finding other ways to become pregnant that were risky and often a recipe for disaster. The safe, socially acceptable route - ie through a clinic - was
often unavailable - or the process too costly, intrusive or lengthy- for many women and couples.

She decided, therefore, to create FSDW -as a way
for men to be able to make choices with regards to donation- ie who they donate to and on what terms. She wanted to offer a place for kind, honourable men to connect with women, and to
make their own arrangements, and to ncourage all parties to consider the best interest of the child. With IVF the child will not know his or her father- until the age of 18. While that may work for many- it isn't the best arrangement for others. Through FSDW many donors play an 'uncle' type role, and some would even wish to co-parent. Is this not of benefit to the child in many situations? A child born from sperm donation - where neither parent or child know anything about each other - can cause all
sorts of emotionally problems.

This topic is a difficult one- and there is
no 'right' or 'wrong' answer. However Emma's concern was that so many women seemed to be choosing one night stands, or making choices regarding pregnancy- without a discussion with the man involved, before the conception occurred. Men could find themselves being chased for child support - whereas the
FSDW donors and women / couples who use
this service tend to really want this- and take
a much more responsible, educated approach
to the matter. Both parties are in agreement BEFORE conception - reducing potential problems in the future.

Of course there are more risks when choosing this route - legal issues (discussed on our free info pages) health issues (HIV can fail to show up in a test- and show up six months later - which is why frozen sperm is quarantined) and more. So,
as well as offering people choices, Emma has tried to offer guidance and support, so that people can at least reduce the risks as best they can if they decide they want to choose this route.
Information about sperm donor testing is available, donor agreement documents available, including information about
getting pregnant as quickly as possible- not just for the mother's sake- but also so that time is not wasted on the part of the donor.
These donors all register to donate without charge, AI only, and so it is the responsibility of the recipients to do her part to facilitate a quick conception.

Emma personally replies to all emails- and offers advice regarding meeting the emotional needs of children born form sperm donation- when and how to
tell them, what issues they should consider and work through and more.

This all takes alot of time and effort - which is why, in part, subscription fees are charged. However she strongly believes that if this was offered for free- the connections part of this
service- then women who have not really considered this fully, might decide to 'just give it a go'. Charging a membership fee won't stop that- but it will make some women stop and
think before proceeding.
Membership fees are in line with dating site membership fees- even though the potential rewards are arguable worth far more. Of
course sperm donors aren't charged- why would we charge these amazing men- who are helping so many women and infertile couples
fulfil their dream of being a parent? However FSDW donors- and women- are obliged to conduct themselves honourably- and to
abide by the behaviour code. We have such a supportive members area- with blogs posted etc- that when members post anything in the slightest bit offensive, or donors seem to suggest there are looking for sex, or payment, they are immediately bumped off. As Emma moderates the site herself, standards are high- and this is why FSDW remains the most popular private sperm donation connections web site on the internet. Dear Emma,
Well here we are, at the end of 2009, a strange year, nerve wracking year, but a wonderful year.
It was a year ago that I made the decision to join your site, at 34 knowing I was ready to become a Mum.  I was amazed at the response, but to me I knew I had to find the right donor for this to work, not down to characteristics but just a feeling..
On January 4th I had an email from someone, who was outside my age bracket that I was searching in, from another country (i'm in the UK and he was in Canada) but something was very easy & after a couple of emails it was very apparent, if I was to go ahead with this whole process, he was the one. Luckily he felt the same way about me, after choosing who he wanted to help very carefully, and had been registered for some time.
So In May, we met for the first time as he was in the UK, my dates weren't quite right, ovulation happened 2 days prior to his arrival. In June we tried again, but again the dates were only just within the fertile window, but it was third time lucky when I fell pregnant when he was back in the UK in July.
I'm now 25 weeks through, we have an amazing friendship for life - he has mde this a very positive and amazing journey so far. 
So I just want to say to anyone, be open in what you think you are looking for, find the RIGHT donor and don't base that on geography alone.
So Thank you Emma, for your wonderful site, without it, I wouldn't be pregnant now & I woudln't have met this wonderful, generous man who will be a friend for life.....
